EDITING AND REWRITING SERVICES
We love to help writers succeed. To that end, we offer our skills to help first-time and veteran authors create the finest books of which they are capable. Our most frequently-used services include manuscript analysis, copyediting, and rewriting.
- Manuscript Analysis. After a careful reading of your manuscript, we tell you what you need to know: how your work compares when measured by the accepted standards of written English; the standards of the genre you have chosen (how-to, mystery, biography, true crime, etc.) and format (non-fiction book or novel) in which the work is being expressed; and the quality standards and demands of the literary marketplace. The result is a detailed six-to-eight-page report. We provide specific examples of how and where to make the improvements. The process takes thirty days and costs between $350 and $550, depending on the size of the manuscript. We include a quotation which specifies the cost if the author wishes us to carry out the recommended improvements.
- Copyediting is the term used to describe the process of identifying and correcting indisputable errors of fact or usage. Copyediting is a routine step in the production of almost any professionally-written piece. A manuscript may require light ("line editing"), medium, or heavy ("structural") copyediting to achieve optimum readability.
- Rewriting is the term for any work where the editor makes direct changes in the style or content of the text. The rewrite editor makes complex, subjective intellectual judgements which may include moving, creating or deleting existing text, and changing plot and characters. Rewriting is often called for when analysis of the manuscript reveals problems in concept, style, expression or manuscript formatting beyond that which basic copyediting can remedy.
